Two weeks and an upgrade

The chickens are now two weeks old.  We've had to upgrade their temporary coop.  They are now in Maggie's old dog crate.  They seem to like it.  They have plenty of room to roam now.  Brian even added some old twigs and branches to give them a perch.  Our two Barred Rock chickens seemed to have mastered getting up on them.

At this point we've even gone ahead and named them.  The two Barred Rocks are Ester and Gertrude or Gertie for short.  And the two Americaunas are Bernice and Florence or Bertie and Flo for short.  I'm still hoping that we have hens.

Pleasure Island Beer Fest

Yesterday Brian and I went to Carolina Beach with his friend Kelly and his wife Sarah for a beer fest.  It was held right on the lake and it was really nice.  This beer fest is much smaller than the Lighthouse beer fest and had beers from the southeast region.  I think we all enjoyed ourselves until I wrecked twice on a bike.  Note to self: bikes and beer fest do not go together.

1 week

We've had the chickens for 1 week now.  They've moved from the kitchen counter to the garage.  They were making a mess and it is easier to clean up the wood shavings from the garage floor than the carpet.

I can't believe how much they have grown in one week.  If you look closely they are starting to get their feathers on their wings.

We have chickens!

Brian brought home 4 baby chicks.  2 Barred Rock and 2 Americaunas.  Lets just hope that all 4 are hens.
